At Phycobloom, we believe that collaboration is the key to success. To strengthen our bonds and have a little fun, we recently organised a sports day event with two other innovative startups who work alongside us at our Westbourne Park building, Thermulon and Nanograb.
Thursday 25th July 2024 marked the first annual Sports Day event, which took place in rainy Hyde Park, providing the perfect backdrop for a proper British day of outdoor activities. As the teams gathered, the energy was palpable. Participants were sporting a wide range of sportswear, from high-tech trail shoes and shorts, to dress shirts and polished leather work shoes.
The sports day featured a variety of energising activities designed to cater to different interests and abilities. A spirited tug-of-war competition set the tone for the day, seeing the teams give their all to topple their opponents.
Next, we moved on to a series of relay races, including the classic three-legged race and a sustainable egg-and-spoon race featuring reusable synthetic eggs. A water balloon (reusable, of course) throwing competition, whose rules saw any participant whose balloon no longer contained water removed from the competition, resulted in some of the scientific-minded competitors arguing about the microliters of water remaining in their respective balloons.
One of the highlights of the day was the C-suite fancy costume race, which saw our CEO John and CTO Ian running to a victory against the other executives on our last challenge.
As the day came to a close, everyone gathered for a picnic, shared stories, and enjoyed a well-deserved break. The winners were announced, and Thermulon proudly took the podium, followed by Phycobloom as a close second.
Overall, this sports day event was a success, and a testament to the power of coming together to build a stronger, more connected community. Here’s to more such events in the future!
